Registering a user name is optional. City pages and country pages can be edited by anybody without logging in, and without a user name.

If you want a user name click any "Create account" link. Pick a user name and password. No other info is required. You can use an alias user name if desired. Your real name is not required at any point, although you are welcome to use it.

Using your real name is cautioned against when editing wikis. See Wikipedia:Realname and Wikipedia:Harassment. You might want to consider how editing a cannabis wiki with your real name might affect your job, family, relatives, and relations with your neighbors.

Your email address is optional, and is kept private. It is useful for password retrieval if you forget your password.

It also is essential if you want to be a 2019 page editor so that you get notified if anybody tries to leave a city and event link on your talk page. You are notified by email anytime someone posts on your user talk page.

You can use an alias email if you want to. Many people create secondary email accounts with pen names, alias names, etc.. This way they can reply to others' emails without revealing their real name.

After registration you will have a blank user page. Find your user page here: Special:Log/newusers. Your user page is created when you type anything in it, even a period, and save it. You can also find your user page with this search. Uncheck all (via the "none" button), and then check the box for "user". Enter your user name and then search.

In addition in your preferences you can choose to let others contact you privately by email through a link on your user or talk page. Your email address is not revealed when other users contact you. Provide an email address in preferences here. It is not revealed to others. There is a default preference setting here that sends you an email notification if someone posts to your talk page. There is a default preference setting here that enables others to contact you by email through a link ("email this user") in the sidebar (under tools) of your user and talk pages. You can remove that sidebar email link by unchecking the box for that preference. Or you can copy that link to the top of your user and/or talk page, or elsewhere.

From preferences: "Email address is optional, but is needed for password resets, should you forget your password. You can also choose to let others contact you by email through a link on your user or talk page. Your email address is not revealed when other users contact you."
